Shadow of the Tomb Raider is an action-adventure video game developed by Eidos Montréal in conjunction with Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix. It continues the narrative from the 2015 game Rise of the Tomb Raider and is the twelfth mainline entry in the Tomb Raider series. The game was released worldwide on 14 September 2018 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. They further also released it on macOS and Linux set for 2019.
Set shortly after the events of Rise of the Tomb Raider, its story follows Lara Croft as she ventures through Mesoamerica and South America to the legendary city Paititi, battling the paramilitary organization 'Trinity'. She races to stop a Mayan apocalypse she has unleashed. Lara must traverse the environment and combat enemies with firearms and stealth as she explores semi-open hubs. In these hubs she can raid challenge tombs to unlock new rewards, complete side missions, and scavenge for resources which can be used to craft useful materials.
The game cover uses a bright orange glow from the sun which looks like an eclipse. This is quite eye-catching, especially as it is in the centre of the cover and right behind Lara's head. We can also evidently see a knife which Lara is holding, making her look like a powerful character. This symbolises adventure and makes people want to buy the game. The picture has quite high definition quality which also makes it look more appealing and come across as a game with good special effects.
There are a lot of shadows which depict danger, darkness or death. It is almost as if the orange glow is the only thing lighting up the picture.
Lara is dressed in all black and blends in to the tree she is lurched against. This would mean she is trying to stay hidden away from something and to blend into the environment.
We don't see Lara's face which shows her identity is still unknown until the game is played, this adds to the mystery and secrecy.
